Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years
Why is everyone in such a rush?
Walk into any bookstore, and you'll see how to Teach Yourself Java in 7 Days alongside endless variations offering to teach Visual Basic, Windows, the Internet, and so on in a few days or hours. I did the following power search at Amazon.com:
pubdate: after 1992 and title: days and
(title: learn or title: teach yourself)
and got back 248 hits. The first 78 were computer books (number 79 was Learn Bengali in 30 days). I replaced "days" with "hours" and got remarkably similar results: 253 more books, with 77 computer books followed by Teach Yourself Grammar and Style in 24 Hours at number 78. Out of the top 200 total, 96% were computer books.
The conclusion is that either people are in a big rush to learn about computers, or that computers are somehow fabulously easier to learn than anything else. There are no books on how to learn Beethoven, or Quantum Physics, or even Dog Grooming in a few days. Felleisen et al. give a nod to this trend in their book How to Design Programs, when they say "Bad programming is easy. Idiots can learn it in 21 days, even if they are dummies.
Let's analyze what a title like Learn C++ in Three Days could mean:
Learn: In 3 days you won't have time to write several significant programs, and learn from your successes and failures with them. You won't have time to work with an experienced programmer and understand what it is like to live in a C++ environment. In short, you won't have time to learn much. So the book can only be talking about a superficial familiarity, not a deep understanding. As Alexander Pope said, a little learning is a dangerous thing.
C++: In 3 days you might be able to learn some of the syntax of C++ (if you already know another language), but you couldn't learn much about how to use the language. In short, if you were, say, a Basic programmer, you could learn to write programs in the style of Basic using C++ syntax, but you couldn't learn what C++ is actually good (and bad) for. So what's the point? Alan Perlis once said: "A language that doesn't affect the way you think about programming, is not worth knowing". One possible point is that you have to learn a tiny bit of C++ (or more likely, something like JavaScript or Flash's Flex) because you need to interface with an existing tool to accomplish a specific task. But then you're not learning how to program; you're learning to accomplish that task.

Teach Yourself Programming in Ten Years
Researchers (Bloom (1985), Bryan & Harter (1899), Hayes (1989), Simmon & Chase (1973)) have shown it takes about ten years to develop expertise in any of a wide variety of areas, including chess playing, music composition, telegraph operation, painting, piano playing, swimming, tennis, and research in neuropsychology and topology. The key is deliberative practice: not just doing it again and again, but challenging yourself with a task that is just beyond your current ability, trying it, analyzing your performance while and after doing it, and correcting any mistakes. Then repeat. And repeat again. There appear to be no real shortcuts: even Mozart, who was a musical prodigy at age 4, took 13 more years before he began to produce world-class music. In another genre, the Beatles seemed to burst onto the scene with a string of #1 hits and an appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1964. But they had been playing small clubs in Liverpool and Hamburg since 1957, and while they had mass appeal early on, their first great critical success, Sgt. Peppers, was released in 1967. Malcolm Gladwell reports that a study of students at the Berlin Academy of Music compared the top, middle, and bottom third of the class and asked them how much they had practiced:
Everyone, from all three groups, started playing at roughly the same time - around the age of five. In those first few years, everyone practised roughly the same amount - about two or three hours a week. But around the age of eight real differences started to emerge. The students who would end up as the best in their class began to practise more than everyone else: six hours a week by age nine, eight by age 12, 16 a week by age 14, and up and up, until by the age of 20 they were practising well over 30 hours a week. By the age of 20, the elite performers had all totalled 10,000 hours of practice over the course of their lives. The merely good students had totalled, by contrast, 8,000 hours, and the future music teachers just over 4,000 hours.
So it may be that 10,000 hours, not 10 years, is the magic number. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) thought it took longer: "Excellence in any department can be attained only by the labor of a lifetime; it is not to be purchased at a lesser price." And Chaucer (1340-1400) complained "the lyf so short, the craft so long to lerne." Hippocrates (c. 400BC) is known for the excerpt "ars longa, vita brevis", which is part of the longer quotation "Ars longa, vita brevis, occasio praeceps, experimentum periculosum, iudicium difficile", which in English renders as "Life is short, [the] craft long, opportunity fleeting, experiment treacherous, judgment difficult." Although in Latin, ars can mean either art or craft, in the original Greek the word "techne" can only mean "skill", not "art".
Here's my recipe for programming success:
Get interested in programming, and do some because it is fun. Make sure that it keeps being enough fun so that you will be willing to put in ten years.
Talk to other programmers; read other programs. This is more important than any book or training course.
Program. The best kind of learning is learning by doing. To put it more technically, "the maximal level of performance for individuals in a given domain is not attained automatically as a function of extended experience, but the level of performance can be increased even by highly experienced individuals as a result of deliberate efforts to improve." (p. 366) and "the most effective learning requires a well-defined task with an appropriate difficulty level for the particular individual, informative feedback, and opportunities for repetition and corrections of errors." (p. 20-21) The book Cognition in Practice: Mind, Mathematics, and Culture in Everyday Life is an interesting reference for this viewpoint.
If you want, put in four years at a college (or more at a graduate school). This will give you access to some jobs that require credentials, and it will give you a deeper understanding of the field, but if you don't enjoy school, you can (with some dedication) get similar experience on the job. In any case, book learning alone won't be enough. "Computer science education cannot make anybody an expert programmer any more than studying brushes and pigment can make somebody an expert painter" says Eric Raymond, author of The New Hacker's Dictionary. One of the best programmers I ever hired had only a High School degree; he's produced a lot of great software, has his own news group, and made enough in stock options to buy his own nightclub.
Work on projects with other programmers. Be the best programmer on some projects; be the worst on some others. When you're the best, you get to test your abilities to lead a project, and to inspire others with your vision. When you're the worst, you learn what the masters do, and you learn what they don't like to do (because they make you do it for them).
Work on projects after other programmers. Be involved in understanding a program written by someone else. See what it takes to understand and fix it when the original programmers are not around. Think about how to design your programs to make it easier for those who will maintain it after you.
Learn at least a half dozen programming languages. Include one language that supports class abstractions (like Java or C++), one that supports functional abstraction (like Lisp or ML), one that supports syntactic abstraction (like Lisp), one that supports declarative specifications (like Prolog or C++ templates), one that supports coroutines (like Icon or Scheme), and one that supports parallelism (like Sisal).
Remember that there is a "computer" in "computer science". Know how long it takes your computer to execute an instruction, fetch a word from memory (with and without a cache miss), read consecutive words from disk, and seek to a new location on disk. (Answers here.)
Get involved in a language standardization effort. It could be the ANSI C++ committee, or it could be deciding if your local coding style will have 2 or 4 space indentation levels. Either way, you learn about what other people like in a language, how deeply they feel so, and perhaps even a little about why they feel so.
Have the good sense to get off the language standardization effort as quickly as possible.
With all that in mind, its questionable how far you can get just by book learning. Before my first child was born, I read all the How To books, and still felt like a clueless novice. 30 Months later, when my second child was due, did I go back to the books for a refresher? No. Instead, I relied on my personal experience, which turned out to be far more useful and reassuring to me than the thousands of pages written by experts.
Fred Brooks, in his essay No Silver Bullet identified a three-part plan for finding great software designers:
Systematically identify top designers as early as possible.
Assign a career mentor to be responsible for the development of the prospect and carefully keep a career file.
Provide opportunities for growing designers to interact and stimulate each other.
This assumes that some people already have the qualities necessary for being a great designer; the job is to properly coax them along. Alan Perlis put it more succinctly: "Everyone can be taught to sculpt: Michelangelo would have had to be taught how not to. So it is with the great programmers".
So go ahead and buy that Java book; you'll probably get some use out of it. But you won't change your life, or your real overall expertise as a programmer in 24 hours, days, or even months.

Why HTML5 is a big threat to Adobe?
Adobe has been avoiding to publicly admit that Flash lite is useless in 99.9% of cases because Flash lite is so different from Flash for PC.
The marketing team of Adobe has been smartly using the statement "Over 800 million (mobile) devices shipped with Flash" over and over again, trying to convince us that Flash is already de facto standard, ignoring the fact that most of Flash contents on web-site today are written for Flash 8 or 9, and Flash lite on those mobile devices are not able to display those contents.
As far as I know, this is the first time Adobe publicly admitted that putting "full" Flash Player (Flash 10) on majority of smartphone is very important for Adobe to become the true de facto standard in the mobile industry.
As all of us already know, the biggest challenge for Adobe is iPhone. Even though nobody besides a small number of executives in Adobe and Apple know the real reason, Apple won't (or can't) put Flash on iPhone and will remain this way for a very long time (if not forever). Along with the fact that the most of web traffic from mobile devices are coming from iPhone, this is making virtually impossible for Adobe to dominate the smartphone market.
While iPhone itself is enough pain in the neck, here comes HTML5. It started with a small "hack" made by engineers in Apple who put tag into Safari browser for Apple Dashboard. It was very awkward extension - mixing the "immediate" mode into the "retained" mode, but made it possible to create flash-like web applications inside HTML pages. Later, Google chose WebKit as the rendering engine for Chromium. Both Firefox and Opera started supporting tag, and it became a part of proposed HTML5 standard.
The tag is just a small piece of HTML5. Many other features in HTML5, such as tag, CSS animation, SVG, and WebSocket are threats to Flash. Once HTML5-compatible browsers became the norm, the technical advantage of Flash player will disappear.
There is even a rumor that Apple is working on HTML5 authoring tool, which would directly compete with Adobe's Flash authoring tool. This makes sense. If I were inside Apple today, I would definitely propose such a product.
The biggest hurdle for HTML5 is Internet Explorer, which still has a very large market share. Microsoft just made an announcement that they will support HTML5, but I think it takes years for them to catch up. In addition, supporting HTML5 is a double-edged sword for Microsoft. While pretending to support HTML5, Microsoft may even (incorrectly) think there is a chance to make Silverlight more relevant than Flash while Adobe is busy fighting with HTML5.
If we just look at PC market, it probably takes at least three years for HTML5-compatible browsers to become the majority (unless something really drastic happens within a year). Adobe does not need to worry about this market too much.
On the other hand, the smartphone market is very different. Mobile Safari is already the #1 browser in the market because of iPhone and its traffic (iPhone users are much more active than Blackberry users). We also know that a flood of Android-based smartphone will hit the market in later this year and 2010 - most of them will have a Webkit-based browser. This fact - Webkit is becoming the de facto standard of smartphone browsers, will accelerate the adaption of HTML5 by web developers in mobile mobile - way faster than PC market.
Let's pretend you are a web developer. If your client ask you to create smartphone version of their web-site, which looks great on iPhone and also works other smartphones such as Blackberry, Palm Pre and Andoroid phones, which technology should you use? The answer is obvious - HTML. If your client ask you to make it animated, interactive or multi-media rich, you'd probably choose one of those new features in HTML5.
This is obviously a big threat to Adobe. Considering the fact that more and more people access web from their smartphones than from their PCs, this is a REALLY BIG threat.

The Burden of planning

Or rather, why there should be a Planning Phase in the project plan?
From all the staff at whatiknow.net a great Eid Muburak to all our Islamic readers and greetings to all others.
I have been asked to blog about the requirement for planning in IT, that is; what is planning? what does it do? and why should I do it? The reason for this topic is extremely funny (to me that is) but not to my fearless project manager friend who eats, breathes and sleeps according to PMBOK. Yes, I would like to call him 'grasshopper'. His story goes along the line of (from the horse's mouth so to say);
I am engaged at a client who wanted some documentation done, simple stuff. Operational processes and procedures, you know what I mean? How difficult is it to run a project for and to deliver documentation?
At this stage, I nearly drowned on the sip of tea I had taken. Ha, a project that has the deliverable 'documentation' hidden somewhere in it's Charter and Scope is more of a nightmare than say meeting your bank manager in the unemployment queue. So, how is documentation related to planning? Well, put it this way, remember the carpenter/dress making saying; 'Measure twice, cut once'?
Planning allows you to do this. Measure what is expected and plan the delivery.
Now, the client has a Quality Management System (QMS) in place (ISO 9002) which stipulates certain requirements for documentation, how it is created, stored, distributed and communicated. Yes, the company actually has a 'template' for an operational process and procedure that was signed off by the QMS board. So? What's the problem? Nothing if you are the client, aches and pains if you are my friend!
My friend then went on to tell me that his company had been given the work to "Compile, Approve and Implement" the processess and procedures and you guessed it, the sales person did not even ask the subject matter expert for expected time frames. After all, you can write a process in say 3 days, 10 processess equals 30 days less 5 as you will not have to do all from scratch. So, total man-days is 25 (including discount). And the deliverables? Draft, Approve and Implement 10 business processes and procedures (process and procedure seen as 1 document).
Simple? Yes. Understandable? Yes. Doable? Yes!
The question is, will it meet the client's expectations? No. Why? The client's QMS requires all documents to be reviewed by relevant internal parties and to follow a change management process. One of the requirements of the change management process is the 'Reason to create and/or modify the document' and this is where the tremors started, went to 9.5 on the Richter Scale and ended up with a Tsunami with the different departments at the client getting along like a house on fire, No survivors!
Lets see, my friend has been there for 4 months now, he is running the project at a loss and his company can not withdraw due to contractual obligations. I estimate that they will be at the client for another 3 months.
So, what will planning have told us?
- That there was a QMS in place and what was required.
- The process to follow to create, modify or delete a document.
- Certain default document requirements as in, Who, What, Where, When, Why and How?
- Identified all relevant parties and departments.
- Confirmed the template.
- Confirmed the content.
- Confirmed the 'Implementation' process.
- Confirmed that the client did all processes and procedures following Business Process Management principles.
- Allowed my friend to motivate why 3 days per document was not sufficient and to request a 'Change of Scope'. That is, to manage the project by Scope Change
.
So, what would the planning phase have included?
- Meet with the client, Subject Matter Expert NOT Salesperson.
- Identify documents to be delivered with the client (their buy-in and agreement).
- Understand client's methodology and requirements (QMS and DMS).
- Agree on the content of the documents (what has to be in, their buy-in and agreement).
- Roles and Responsibilities (you can not have the QMS board meet to agree on a document).
- Get the client to understand why the project is bigger than what was specified.
- Identify key role players.
- Schedule the meetings in advance.
- Agree on the deliverable template (Word, Excel, Visio, Open Office etc).
- Know the dynamics of the client's site. Who sits higher in the tree and who may prevent you from getting paid.
Taking this into account, what do you charge the client? I believe that all work done at a client for the client is chargable, maybe at a lessor rate as no intellectual property should be required. Shjould it be free? No, as the client may see this as a business process management exercise and delay the start of the project resulting in a delay to your payment.

The primary function of a consultant

Sorry I'm a few days behind.
I noticed there are not many comments on the last post, so nothing to answer or clarify (as yet?)
Lets talk about the role of a consultant, in the years that I have worked in IT as a supplier, consultant and client/customer, I have seen many different thoughts on what is expected from a consultant. If you look at the Oxford English Dictionary a Consultant is 'a person who provides expert advice professionally '. This has always been an issue with the consultants I have known and dealt with, the word 'professional' means different things to different people the same for 'expert'. Personally, I always say that I have never been a 'pert' so I could never be an 'ex-pert'
When you look at professional conduct, each type of career choice has different interpretations or guidelines. Take a lwayer for instance, they are responsible if not accountable for giving the client the best advice while stealing their money throught changing an arm and a leg and some of them the entire body. However, if it is found that they did not have the client's best interest at heart, they could lose their licence and possibly end up in jail. Believe it or not, this would also hold true in the Kingdom. The same goes for a Doctor or an Engineer. However, in IT, this is not the case.
The question you have to ask yourself is, why not? Is this an easy answer, black and white or is it grey with a few other colours in the mix as well?
In my humble opinion, the answer relates to what the client's expectations are and how much they are willing to spend versus the expected profit from the consultant/supplier.
I am a CISM and CISSP and both bodies make sure that I know what my responsibilities are with regards to consulting (even if I knew it before). If I do not abide by their rules, quite simple, I lose all the certifications resulting in a loss of income. Remember, a certification body has an agreement with other bodies, they tell each other if you have not been doing your work right.
So lets go back to the 'professional' part and see what this means in IT. As I stated in my previous posting, the client must save money, the consultant and supplier must make money. If the client wants a Business Continuity Programme for instance, the consultant/supplier will look at the potential of making as much profit as possible and allocate junior team members (who have limited or no BCP knowledge or experience) and deliver a 50/50 job. That is why there are different levels of consultants, Junior, Senior with wait for it; a Subject Matter Expert. Each costs the client extra, my experience in KSA was that a Junior was billed from USD 800 a day, a Senior from USD 1,600 a day, and this is for a small company. The going rates for South Africa is about the same. If the consultant is billed to the client for a month then it is USD 800 * 20 working days = USD 16,000 a month for a Junior, the Senior comes in at around USD 32,000 a month. The cost to company for the different resources is maximum Junior USD 8,000 and Senior USD 15,000. Not a bad profit!
But wait! Why employ a Senior when we can pass off a Junior as one and make more money. The result of this? The client gets a resource that does not know what is required and does not have the knowledge and/or expertise to do the work. The result? The client fires the first and gets another company to do the work properly with usually the same result.
Wait, stop everything. Think about the expectations, the client knows what they want but need the knowledge and experience of a consultant/supplier to assist them in getting there. Alternatively, the client will ask what should be done and the consultant/supplier will give them advice to the best of their ability. If you have no knowledge or expertise in the subject, how can you give anything to the client? This is what makes the difference between a 'Resource' and a 'Consultant'.
As a consultant, I have left companies and projects due to the use of resources that did not have the knowledge or expertise to deliver and I do not talk about the 'scope' of the project but also the 'big picture' of the client's requirements (or their strategy). I have just left a project in South Africa because of this. Why you ask? Is he stupid? No, there is such a thing as ethical consultants who will try their best to do the work the right way as it is their name (and not the company's) that will get blamed, who then choose to leave a project before their name is dragged through the mud and blamed for what went wrong even though they notified the relevant people of the risks.
What does all this mean? Simply, a professional consultant has the best interest of the client at heart while they make money for their employer. However, the client's expectations are agreed to, managed, and delivered all within budget.
How do you measure a consultant? This is a difficult one as there are many ways to ask, I usually ask clients at my first engagement if they want to be 'told' how to do it or do they want to be 'guided'? If they say guided, then they need a consultant else they need a resource.
Many people will disagree with me on what I have mentioned, but ask yourself this question (say it as it is written); "when the last IT consultant did work for me, did I learn anything about what he was doing or supposed to do?" If you answer 'No' to this then you had a resource. He was there to do the job and do it as cheaply as possible, guiding or mentoring (an experienced person in an organization or institution who trains and counsels new employees or students) is not on his agenda even if it is in the deliverables. A consultant guides and mentors the client even if he annoys the living hell out of the sales person. Ask Fahad about the talks we have had with different clients and the accusations that came from the sales people.
This is called the ethics of the professional consultant. Look at www.isaca.org (click on Code of Professional Ethics) and www.isc2.org (http://www.isc2.org/ethics/default.aspx) for guidelines.

السلام عليكم مثل ماوعدتكم بالامس انه راح اكتب انطباعي عن الاصدار هذا بالاضافه الى تزويدكم بصور من سطح المكتب الخ الخ .. بصراحه جربت تثبيت النظام من جديد وجربت االترقية لهالاصدرا وكلاهما بصراحه تم على اكمل وجهه وبدون مشاكل تذكر لحد الان .. فتره التثبيت الجديد استغرقت حوالي 18 دقيقه على اللاب توب وبصراحه اول ماتدخل على سطح المكتب راح يلقت نظرك انه الاستجابه فيه اسرع بقز اقل وعلى طاري البقز صلحوا بهالاصدار قائمه طويله عريضه من البقز اللي كانت موجوده في 7068 مثل اللي كانت بالانترنت اكسبلورر والكراشات حقته والمدييا بلاير لما تصغره ماتقدر توقف الاغنيه الخ الخ من البقز.. النظام يعمل بوتنق على اللاب توب بحوالي 28 ثانيه ولفت نظري ايضا ان استهلاكه للرام اصبح اقل بشي بسيط يعني الان يستهلك عندي 22 بالميه من رام بسعه 2 قيقا بايت يعني اقل من 500 ميغا بايت مستهلكه والنظام شغال زي العسل بدون مشاكل
وش بعد هممم !! ايه التاسك بار عدلوا عليه شوي بحيث انه الان تقدر تميز الايقونه الاكتف اللي شغاله من الايقونه اللي مسوي لها تصغير او مطفيه

البعض منكم يعرف انه الاصدارات الاخيره للينكس يوبنتو بالامكان تثبيتها كا برنامج في ويندوز واذا حاب تستخدم لينكس تعيد التشغيل وتختار من البوت لينكس يوبنتو
والفكره طبعا اعجبت الكثير وانا اولهم لانها فرصه للي خايف انه يستخدم لينكس يجربه وهو مطمن انه ماراح يحوس شي او يخسر شي بجهازه يعني بالاخير بامكانك ازالته من اظافه وازاله برامج اليوم انا جايب لكم شي احلى
طيب وش رايكم انه متى مابغيت تشغل يوبنتو وتستخدمه تشغله عادي كانه برنامج وبدون ماتعيد تشغيل جهازك وستفيد من جميع مميزاته تقريبا. اليوم جايب لكم Portable Ubuntu واللي بامكانكم تحميله من هنا واللي من خلاله تقدر تشغل يوبنتو وويندوز بنفس اللحظه والاستفاده من الاثنين وكانك مشغل لينكس عندك كا برنامج داخل ويندوز
. وطريقه تركيبه وتشغيله جداا سهله وشغال 100 بالميه على ويندوز اكس بي الى ويندوز 7
. كل ماعليكم هو تحميله من الموقع الخاصه فيه وفك الضغط عن البرنامج وتشغيل الملف run_portable_ubuntu من خلال cmd وانت بكامل صلاحياتك على النظام يعني ادمن
اول ماتشغله ويكتمل راح تشوف التاسك بار حق جنوم باعلى سطح المكتب "بويندوز" بعد كذا خذ راحتك شغل فايرفوكس شغل الشل سو اللي انت تبيه وكانك مركب لينكس فعليا
انا عن نفسي راح استفيد منه بالادوات اللي انا دايم استخدمها عن طريق لينكس
. استهلاكه للذاكره ماهو كثير يعني تقريبا 100 ميغا بايت اول ماتشغله بعد الاستخدام لفتره اكيد بترتفع نسبه استهلاك الرام فالافضل انه يكون جهازك مزود ب 2 قيقا رام عشان تاخذ راحتك بويندوز ولينكس
واداء النظام بشكل عام كويس وبامكانك استخدامه بدون ما تتضايق من بطء الاستجابه
بس ملاحظه بسيطه سوى معي كراش مرتين تقريبا مادري هل لانه ويندوز 7 وفيه مشكله بسيطه في التوافقيه او مشكله فيه بنفسه فاللي يجربه على نظام اخر مثل اكس بي يعطينا رايه ويشاركنا تجربته

Windows 7 Build 7048 Preview

السلام عليكم مثل ماوعدتكم اني راح اكتب عن تجربتي لويندوز 7 Build 7048 اليوم راح اتكلم عنه وعن جديد هالاصدار اولا احب انبهكم الى ان النسخه اللي انا جالس استخدمها هي 64 بت وليست 32 بت فابسم الله نبداء:
مواصفات الجهاز المستخدم
Dell XPS M1330 Laptop
CPU: Intel Centrino 2.5Ghz
RAM: 2GB
GPU: nVidia 8400GS 128RAM
HDD: 320GB
Battery: 6 Cell
اولا التثبيت
انا ثبت النظام عن طريق USB Stick واخذ مني وقت 18 دقيقه من بداية التركيب والى بداية دخولي لسطح المكتب وطبعا عملية التثبيت كانت جداا سهله واسرع من فيستا
.
ثانيا تعريف الهاردوير
فيه تحسن ملحوظ في تعريف الهاردوير عن النسخ السابقه لويندوز 7 الان مافيه الا قطعتين فقط هي اللي ماتعرف عليها اللي هم كرت الشاشه و البصمه حقت اللابتوب بينما نسخه البيتا 1 كان عندي 4 قطع ماتعرفت وهذا يدل ان انه تم اظافه تعاريف اكثر للدي في دي الخاص بتثبيت النظام. كرت الشاشه على طول سحبه من ويندوز ابديت لي وركبه وانا جالس اتفرج بس البصمه للاسف ماتعرف عليها فاضطريت اروح لموقع UPEK واسحب التعريف الخاص بويندوز فيستا واشتغل بدون مشاكل
.
ثالثا استهلاكه لموارد الجهاز
ويندوز 7 في تحسن مستمر من ناحيه خفة استهلاكه لموارد النظام وخصوصا بطارية اللاب توب الان بامكاني مع Power Saver اكمل 3 ساعات وانا اتصفح الانترنت ومشغل الماسنجر ووايرلس طبعا عدد الساعات قد يقل او يزيد على حسب استخدامك للجهاز بس على الويندوز فيستا ماكان فيه امكانيه اني اصل لـ 3 ساعات. واخيرا وليس اخرا الويندوز 7 عند تشغيله يستغرق من الوقت للوصول الى سطح المكتب مابين 25 الى 30 ثانيه كا حد اقصى واستهلاكه للرام عند بدء التشغيل هو 600 ميغا بايت ويعادل تقريبا 30 بالميه من حجم الرام الكلي وهو 2 قيقا بايت. طبعا لو كان الاصدار 32 بت راح يكون استهلاك الرام اقل لان ال 64 بت يشغل بعض الخدمات في النظام عشان يكون بامكان المستخدم تشغيل برامج ال 32 بت عليه فا بالتالي يستهلك رام اكثر.
رابعا جديد هالنسخه !
النسخه هاذي لفت نظري فيها عد اشياء:
1- امكانية ازالة الانترنت اكسبلورر 8 من النظام.
2- امكانية ازالة XPS Services من النظام.
3- ازالة رابط Send Feedback من نوافذ النظام.
4- ايقونات جديده باماكن متعدده بالنظام.
5- طريقة حركة Start مختلفه تماما عن السابق عند تمرير المؤشر عليها.
6- دعم النظام بشكل افتراضي لملفات فيديو mov والخاصه ب ابل كويك تايم.
7- دمج خاصيه AeroPeek مع Alt+tab.
8- اختصارات جديده مثل الضغط على علامة ويندوز بالكيبورد+ رقم 1 يقوم بتشغيل اول ايقونه موجود في التاسك بار.
9- اظافه Device Manager تحت System and Security في لوحة التحكم
10- لم يتم التعديل على UAC في هذا الاصدار وهذا يدل على ان نسخه RC راح تكون احدث من هذا الاصدار.
خامسا انطباعي عن النظام بشكل عام
بصراحه اشوف النظام خفيف وسلس في الاستخدام وافضل من الاصدارات السابق واكثر استقرار لكن مازال فيه بعض الكراشات بالمتصفح مثلا بالاظافه الى ان الماسنجر بحكم انه 32 بت ويشتغل على 64 بت اكثر من مره لاحظت انه يعلق على المعالج واحصل استخدامه عالي بينما المفترض انه مايكون كذا. استهلاكه للبطاريه فيه تحسن وايضا احس ان النظام استجابته لفتح النوافذ وتطبيق الاعدادات صار اسرع من الاصدارات السابقه واخيرا اترككم الان مع الصور.
Windows 7 Record Steps Feature
ماقد احد نشب لك وقالك بالله ممكن تشرح لي كيف اسوي كذا وكذا بالصور لا هنت .. طبعا بعض الاحيان اذا مزاجك مروق بتسوي شرح وترسلها له بس اذا انت مانت مروق ومالك خلق عندي لك حل طبعا الطريقة التقليديه لشرح البرامج او كيفية عمل خطوات بالنظام لتعديل اعداد معين الخ الخ .. بياخذ من وقتك الشي الكثير طيب وش رايك ياعزيزي انه بامكانك تاخذ صور لخطواتك وتوضح للمستخدم اللي حاب تساعده وين يضغط وتعلق على الصورة وبشكل مرتب جداا وسهل وكل هذا بوقت مايتجاوز الخمس دقايق بالكثير
الان مع ويندوز 7 فيه برنامج مبني داخل النظام اسمه Problem Steps Recorder وبامكانك توصله بكل سهوله عن طريق البحث في لوحه التحكم انت اكتب بس كلمه Problem وهو راح يظهر لك من ضمن الخيارات زي ماهوا واضح بالصورة اللي فوق
طبعا غير ان البرنامج يسجل خطواتك ويعلق عليها تلقائيا مثل تضغط كلك يمين على مجلد Documents
بعد ماتنتهي وتقوله Stop راح يحفط لك خطواتك بملف مضغوط جاهز للارسال
وش رايكم رايقه صح
؟ بتتضح الصوره معكم وبتعرفون قيمه وقوة هالميزه اذا جربتوها بانفسكم بويندوز 7

Non-Wise Decision
بالامس بعد المغرب مباشره وصلني اتصال من شركه تعمل على خدمه احد شركات الاتصالات الجديده
وعندهم مشروع تركيب DataCenter من الالف الى الياء ومن ضمن الشغل طبعا تركيب سيرفرات DNS لاحظوا اني قلت سيرفرات وليس سيرفر
وهذا يعطيكم لمحه ان الشبكه كبيره المهم المطلوب مني كان اركب واختبر مستوى السكيوريتي فيها فا قلت اوكيه انا جايكم بالطريق اخذت العده ( لابتوب+دفتره النوتس
) واتصلت على صديق لي اعمل انا وياه مع بعض بهالمجال ورحنا لهم نشوف وش المشكله وكيف نقدر نساعدهم فيها وصلنا عندهم وهم حايسين وبين انهم مضغوطين من العمل بعد التعارف جلسنا مع بعض بغرفه وطلبت الـ Network Digrams و Project Plan عشان اشوف وش المطلوب بالضبط وبدانا بالحديث طبعا كانوا طالبين نسوي اعدادات الـ DNS كاملة و نختبر مدى سرعه استجابته واستقراره ونختبر مستوى حمايته من الالف الى الياء فقط باربع ايام.
طبعا اول ماقالي 4 انا فكرت انها يعني بعد اسبوع اسبوعين اجهزه نفسي وانا وصديقي ونجي نشتغل جاهزين قالوا لاء نبيكم تشتغلون من اليوم قلت الشغل مايدار بهالطريقه مافيه شي اسمه تركب وتسوي اعدادات واختبار استقرار النظام ومدى حمايته و تقرير بنتيجه العمل كله باربع ايام .. قلت احنا استشاريين محنا بسحره قلت على طلبك هذا يبي لك 4 اشخاص متفرغين يشتغلون عندك طوال الاربع ايام هاذي بدون انقطاع هذا اذا فرضنا ان كل متطلبات تنفيذ العمل متوفره ومافيه حركات كلم فلان وعلان عشان توصل لشغله معينه. بالاخير قالي كلمه تمنيت انه ماقالها .. قالي مهوب لازم تسوي الشغل 100% عطني اي شي امشي فيه شغلي طبعا ردي عليه كان لاء هذا اسمي ياحبيبي يا اسوي الشغل صح اولاء.. واستمر النقاش لساعات ماطلعت من عندهم الا 10 ونص وانا جايهم 6 ونص طبعا خلال هالنقاش الطويل قلت له بالاخير شكلكم متاخير بتنفيذ المشروع قالي لاء مو كذا القصه .. القصه ياعزيزي ان الشركه المفروض تبداء بالعمل بعد 3 شهور ؟؟ وتفاجئنا بامر يطلب بانهاء المشروع نهايه هالشهر ؟؟ قلت مافيه خطه للمشروع متفق عليها قال الا فيه... قلت اجل .. قالي ان العميل طلبه كذا ومصر على هالشي ومانقدر ناخر الموضوع ولا ساعه.
فا استغربت مع العلم ان فيه ناس كثير تسوي هالحركات بس على مشاريع صغيره بس موب انشاء شبكه كامله لان اللي اخذ مثل هالقرار التعسفي مفكر انه بضغط هالعمل راح ينتهي المشروع وتشتغل الشركه كامله بس مافكر بجوده العمل مافكر بانه الشغل اذا خلص باسرع وقت ممكن راح ياثر بشكل سلبي على جوده العمل وراح ياثر على صورته وسمعته قدام الناس كا مزود خدمه. ممكن البعض منكم يقول كيف راح تاثر !! في التقنيه والشبكات مشاكل الجوده ماتظهر الا وقت الاستخدام المكثف فانت لما تضغط المهندسين والاستشارين عندك خلص الشغل يله راح يمشيه بحيث انه يشتغل فقط بس مايضمن لك استمراريته وبالتالي اذا بداءت تسوق نفسك كا مزود خدمه وبدء عدد العملاء عندك يزيد بشكل كبير وطلعت لك مشكله تاثر على عملائك راح تاثر على سمعتك بشكل سلبي والانطباع الاول مثل ماهو معروف دائما يبقى وعشان تقدر تمسح هالسمعه من اذهان الناس تحتاج لمضاعفه العمل ودفع مبالغ اكبر لاصلاح الموضوع واسترجاع ثقه العملاء فيك كا مزود خدمة .. بينما لو انتظرت لك 3 شهور وطلع الشغل صح وسوقت نفسك وكان مستوى خدمتك مستقر ويفتح النفس راح تزيد من دخلك كا شركه لان الناس تبداء تثق فيك وسمعتك تبداء تنتشر وبهالشكل تبداء تملك حيز من السوق بوقت اسرع من المتوقع لانك كسبت ثقه الناس .. بس مادري كيف بعض العقليات الاداريه تفكر ؟؟ معتقد انه اذا خلص الشغل خبصه بيكون افضل مافكر انه تكلفه اصلاح هالخبصه بشبكته بعد مايشتغل فعليا اعلى بكثير من تكلفه انتظاره 3 شهور .. لانك راح تدفع لشركات تجي تصلح لك المشكله وراح تدفع دعايات لكسب ثقه الناس مره ثانيه وحجم الدعايات بيكون مضاعف لانك جالس تحاول تزيل الانطباع الاول من اذهان الناس وهذا الشي ماهول سهل.
بس تبون الصراحه بعض الاحيان المشكله تكون مشتركه بين العميل وبين الشركه اللي جايه تقدم خدمه للعميل بعض الاحيان كلا الاثنين تنقصهم الخبره في اداره المشروع يعني فيه ناس ماعندها الخبره الكافيه انها تقدر كم تحتاج من الوقت عشان انهي هالمشروع ؟؟ تصدقون قد شفت مره خطه مشروع مطلوب فيه تجهيز 20 جهاز مع تركيب نظام التشغيل واختباره هل هو يعمل او لاء بدون مشاكل فنيه بيوم واحد بس !! ( وجهه يصيح ) و بعض الاحيان العكس تلقى الشغله ماتاخذ يوم وتلقاه حاجز اسبوع لها ؟؟ يعني مافيه حل وسط يا يحجرك بزاويه يا يعطيك وقت لدرجه انك تمشى فاضي ماعندك شي. كل اللي انا ابي اقوله يا عزيزي المدير اوالمسؤول خطط صح ترتاح واتفق مع الشركه اللي تجيك والزمهم بوقت محدد من البدايه وحط شروط جزائيه اذا صار فيه تاخير بالموضوع عشان تجبر الشركه بانها تلتزم بالمده الزمنيه المتفق عليها فقط. يعني موب تعطيهم وقت ويجهزون نفسهم على هالشي تجي انت اخرتها وبنص المشروع تخربها وتختصر نص وقت المتبقى لا وتبي المشروع يكون زي الساعه .. هاذي اسمها شين وقوي عين
